Write & Rise Founder and Director Margo Perin will be reading from her performance-in-progress IS THIS ME? that tells the story of her childhood on the lam with her criminal father, interwoven with her experiences teaching in San Francisco County Jail and San Quentin State Prison.

Write & Risers who have been released from prison and family members will be reading, along with youth and Founder Maurisha Williams from D.Y.M.E.S. Youth, Xochitl Fierro, Founder of The R.O.A.D., and Kenny Johnson, Founder of This Sacred Space.

RECENT PRESENTATIONS
Social Justice Symposium, University of California at Berkeley
COULDA BEEN ME: This interactive workshop will demonstrate and provide the opportunity for practicing techniques of storytelling that foster an "inside-out" understanding of the issues, perspectives, and desires of both social worker and client as they work toward personal restoration and social justice. Perin and participants of Write & Rise programs for people at risk of and impacted by incarceration will share their personal experiences of writing as a tool for healing and social change, and its importance in social work practice for attendees to take back to the workplace. People impacted by incarceration will provide their points of view about the experiences and needs of their communities and will demonstrate hands-on techniques and the value of telling and sharing personal stories in group and individual work as a tool for healing individuals, families, and communities across society.
